Bhubaneswar, Sep 10 (SocialNews.XYZ) Several parts of Odisha brace for more rain as a fresh low-pressure area formed over the Bay of Bengal, said the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday.
“A Low Pressure Area has formed over North Bay of Bengal & neighbourhood today, and persisted at the same region. The associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 9.4 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height,” reads the IMD, Bhubaneswar bulletin on Thursday.
The weather agency also predicted that the system is likely to trigger heavy rainfall across several parts of the state for the next couple of days. Meanwhile, the IMD has issued a red warning, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places, with extremely heavy rainfall at one or two places, over the districts of Kalahandi and Kandhamal till Friday morning.
The agency also issued an orange warning, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall, very likely at one or two places, over Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Gajapati and Ganjam districts of the state on Thursday and till Friday morning.
Heavy rainfall is also very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Malkangiri, Puri, Khordha and Nayagada during the above period.
Yellow warnings have also been issued for several districts of the state till Sunday, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall. The IMD predicted that thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and gusty surface wind (wind speed reaching upto 30-40 kmph) is likely to occur along with heavy to very heavy rainfall across the state.
The sea condition is also very likely to remain rough to very rough along and off the Odisha coast during the next 48 hours, the IMD said.
The agency advised fishermen not to venture into the sea along and off the Odisha coast during the next 48 hours in view of the prevailing weather conditions.
